Giuliano Scarcelli, PhD

Giuliano Scarcelli is a physicist specialized in optical science and technology development. He obtained his PhD in quantum optics from UMBC under Prof. Yanhua Shih. Before joining College Park, Giuliano was at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine of Harvard Medical School for eight years, first as a postdoc in Prof. Yun's Lab, then as an instructor and assistant professor. He maintains a visiting faculty position at Harvard Medical School.  Giuliano has been the recipient of several awards such as the “Exceptional by example” award for outstanding PhD studies, the Tosteson Postdoctoral Fellowship, the Human Frontier Science Program Young Investigator Award, the NIH Quantitative Career Award, and the Harvard University “Teaching excellence” award.

Jitao Zhang, PhD

Dr. Zhang is currently a postdoc in Optics Biotech Lab at University of Maryland. Prior to that, he worked in the ECE department at the University of Arizona as a postdoctoral research associate from 2012 to 2014. Before he came to Arizona, He served briefly as an assistant research faculty in Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. He obtained a PhD degree in optical engineering at Tsinghua University in 2010, and the BE degree at Wuhan University in 2006. His research interests are related to the development and application of Brillouin Spectroscopy, Terahertz (THz) imaging and spectroscopy, especially in the application and instrumentation of THz-TDS (time-domain spectroscopy), THz near-field imager, as well as the simulation (by FDTD method) and design of THz photoconductive antenna. Beyond that, he is also interested in the application of optical interferometry, spectroscopic ellipsometry and optical frequency comb.
